CHB is 25 years old! Since 1990, we have teamed with families and individuals, helping them build their own homes, achieve long-term stability and learn valuable skills through our Mutual Self-Help Housing Program.

During the past 25 years we have built more than 200 homes in McMinnville, Carlton, Amity, Sheridan, Gervais and Lafayette. We have been fortunate to have provided stable housing for nearly 800 people, including over 300 children! What’s more, by partnering with USDA, building in the Willamette Valley and utilizing local vendors, suppliers and contractors, we have helped invest more than $31M dollars in the local economy.

In terms of our construction plans for the near future, we hope to build homes in several local communities that our program […]

Since the agency is a private non-profit, we decided to make the leap and change to name to something that will more clearly express our mission and intent to support communities in rural areas. We think the name Community Home Builders helps clear some of the confusion and gives us a name that exhibits our focus on building community through our programs.

However, while the name and logo may have changed, YCDC’s commitment to professionalism, client care, high quality construction […]

CHB goes EnergyStar!

For several years, CHB has been looking at affordable steps the organization can take for building greener, more energy efficient homes. After some amount of planning and research, CHB has decided to partner with EarthAdvantage, who will provide testing, consulting services and certification to help CHB hit EnergyStar benchmarks. In order to achieve EnergyStar requirements, CHB will be building homes with upgraded insulation and building envelopes – dramatically increasing heating and cooling efficiency – reducing utility bills and other long term costs for our clients in Lafayette!
